Tea with Jane
at the Drake HOtel
The 1st Annual Tea with Jane raised over $35,000 to benefit Jane Addams Hull House Association in celebration of Jane Addams Day on December 10, 2007 at the legendary Drake Hotel. In recognition of making an important contribution during this time of year, over 60 guests were treated to this elegant and exclusive high tea.
“We are proud to be celebrating the accomplishments of Jane Addams as the state of Illinois honors her today,” said Clarence N. Wood, CEO and President of Hull House. ”Special friends have gathered together to honor her mission and raise funds for the Association.”

Greeted with champagne and a harpist in the adorned Palm Court, guests sipped on high tea while being entertained with a private fashion show of holiday finery by some of Chicago’s premium merchants.
Models dazzled in fine jewelry created by Tiffany & Co, designer coats from Elan Furs, and strutted Yves Saint Laurent’s Cruise 2008 Collection and exclusive shoes and handbags. Special items displayed from Montblanc included the Marlene Dietrich commemorative writing instrument.

Ayala Maquillage provided make-up design and Salon O Sixty-Five created hair design for the models. Pret-a-Poser Photography also donated services and captured the images of the event.
The fashion show was culminated by surprise prize giveaways, with winners receiving a downtown black buffalo leather handbag donated by Yves Saint Laurent and a Meisterstuck pen donated by Montblanc.

“We’re excited to embark on a new tradition for the Jane Addams Hull House Association and appreciate those who have generously supported us,” stated Andrew Abrahams, Chief Development Officer.
Jane Addams, known as “the mother of social work,” opened the doors of the Hull House on September 18, 1889. She became the first American woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize on December 10, 1931. The state of Illinois now celebrates Jane Addams Day on December 10th in her honor.
In addition, the Northwest Tollway was renamed the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway in 2007. This highway passes near her hometown of Cedarville, Illinois. She is the first woman to have a stretch of a Chicagoland expressway named after her.
